Source: tape from Waterrat (Anthony)...unfortunately, sound is very hissy and muddy, but it's good enough for the job. :-) Also have a CD from GaoBest...a different source, which sounds like a digital master, but is also muddy, with very loud kick drum. I suspect this was due to the acoustics of the venue. According to GaoBest, he believes this was taped by ASw.

BS: "Hello, guess who we are? We are New Order. Not played in Seattle for a while...of course, this isn't Seattle. We're going to start off with a Joy Division song called Atmosphere, which we've never played in Seattle."
They did play in Seattle once before, on the Technique tour, and unless their setlist was remarkably different there, Bernard, amazingly enough, may have been accurate in his recollection.
Crazed fan yells out "I love you!!!" at about 2:20 in (Waterrat). Bernard whoops shortly thereafter.
Regret
BS: "Thank you. Thank you, it's a long time since we've played that. 24 hours. This is...[can't make out rest, but it doesn't sound like 'Regret' was mentioned]". Oddly enough, the last line isn't even audible on the GaoBest copy.
Crystal
BS: "Woo! OK. All right. this is our new single, it's called Crystal, please all go out and buy it immediately!"
This perhaps was the best-played Crystal so far.
BS: "Thank you!"
PH: [in reaction to fans shouting out titles, I presume] "Nope, try again later!"
Love Will Tear Us Apart
BS: "All right, we're gonna hear a new...I am...another Joy Division song now, and it's called Love Will Tear Us Apart."
PH: "One...C'mon Billy, fucking hell...one, two, three, four!"
They play LWTUA.
BS: "'k you...you come over, eh?"
BS: "Let's hear it for David Beckham...Let's hear it for Manchester United! [another pause] David, the guitar isn't working."
PH: "We're not allowed to chat with you during this intermission." [or something to that effect]
Your Silent Face
BS: "All right, here we go, this is Your Silent Face."
NO play KW1.
BS: "Thank you very much [very slurred]. It's great to be back in America again. See some sunshine. Take some drugs! Meet a few ladies."
Turn My Way
BS: "Okay, this is a song called Turn My Way faturing Billy Corgan on vocals...and guitar solo...me on capo...Hooky, your bass is feeding back out."
Which they perform.
BS: "Thank you!"
Bizarre Love Triangle
BS: "Okay, this is Bizarre Love Triangle."
Doesn't really sound any different than the million other times they've performed this tune, though it was reported that Barney was off, rendering one of the choruses without vocals.
BS: "'k you. Thanks a lot."
PH: "You're very kind."
Touched By The Hand Of God
BS: "Okay, this is the song that's gonna make [Hooky?] put down, it's called Touched By The Hand Of God."
The timing was definitely off for this one, with Bernard coming in a bit early.
When the song ends, some girlie yells out "We love you Billy Corgan!" and start chanting "Billy Corgan...Billy...Corgan". !@#$% (Waterrat)
BS: "Absolutely beautiful place you got here for us to play...it's a real pleasure to be here. [looking out over horizon] Where's Seattle?"
BC laughs.
BS: "Which direction is it?"
BC: "Over there."
Some girlies yell out "We love you Billy Corgan!", covering up the reply Hooky made. !@#$% :-) (Waterrat)
PH: "Who's gonna..." [all I can make out]
BS: "Stephen, you're...[?]"
True Faith
PH: "I'm ready...
BS: "Okay, this is True Faith."

BS: "'k you. We actually finished it! Okay, I need my badass guitar to play this song. It's called Temptation."
That Girl: Billy, Yeah! Screams. Shut up already, we get the point. (Waterrat)
Some scuffling on the right channel during the beginning of the first verse.
BS: "Thank you."
Guitar being strummed.
BC: (softly) "Thank you very much".
I don't hear the edit between the end of Temptation and the start of the encore...it could have been than New Order never really left the stage. Would appreciate any information.
60 Miles An Hour
PH: "Ah, must be all you sweaty bastards playing havoc with our tuning."
BS: "This one's called 60 Miles An Hour, let's go. Get on with it, Roger, or you're sacked!"
PH: "Ooh...[last phrase a mumble]"
Blue Monday
BS: "Is Roger here? Must have startled him[?] This is Blue Monday. Hope you like it as much as I do."
Some fool calls out for Ceremony. :-)
Some silly audience members start going "whoo whoo", in the fashion of some contempory urban music hit. ;-) (both Waterrat)
BS: "Thanks a lot, you've been a fucking great audience. Thanks for all the people than came over from England. Manchester United! Manchester vibes in the area!"

Like I said in my last post, the show was great. My girlfriend and I made our way into the crowd as soon as the Roots left the stage. After a few minutes we found ourselves about 10 feet from the stage, almost directly in front of Hooky's mic stand. It became apparent quickly that most of the people in the crowd were there waiting for Outkast (who were on after NO) But we did manage to meet a few nice people who were there just for NO. In the words of one fan I met, "I paid $70 for New Order. I could give a shit about the rest of the bands."
After about 30 minutes of waiting, I turned to say something to my girlfriend. As I turned back around, there was Peter Hook looming above me, arms crossed and staring blankly into the crowd. Soon the rest of the band were on stage and they were playing Atmosphere. I've never been a big fan of the Reading 98 version, but tonight it sounded beautiful. Bernard held back on all the wooping that apparently has plagued previous gigs. I can't imagine NO doing a better job of this song. It really was perfect.
After that Bernard stepped up to the mic and made some comment about how he loves America. Then he said, "Here's a song we haven't played in 24 hours." Regret. At times this has been my favorite NO song, often on repeat in my cd player. Tonight it didn't dissapoint. Everything about it was great. Best part however, sometime during the song a beautiful rainbow formed over the hills. I'm pretty sure NO had something to do with it.
Next on the list was Crystal. They started out with the piano/synth intro from the extended version wich really got my hopes up (love the extended instrumental at the end) however as soon as the intro was over it became the edit. Apart from the keyboard bits in the break, Phil Cunningham was down playing guitar with Bernard and Sick Boy (Corgan, who looked like he was dead he was so pale). Crystal, for lack of a better term, really "rocked" tonight. Nobody in the crowd seemed to know the song, but after the song a number of people were making comments about how much they liked it. Bernard also made the point of explaining to the crowd that Crystal was their newest single and they need to go buy it "right now". Maybe he didn't realize that it hasn't been released yet...
From here on my recollection gets of the set list gets a little fuzzy. 90 degree sun, tightly packed crowd and the fact that I had been walking around for five hours at ths point had all led to fatigue. Overall it was a great show. My life really is complete now. LWTUA was fantastic, as was most of the set. Sick Boy sounded horrible on Turn My Way. Several people in the audience actually started booing very loudly when Bernard introduced him for the song. Peter looked like he was having the most fun on stage. Bernard kinda looked pissed (probably cuz he started singing early on three different songs, which led to a silent chorus on BLT). There really wasn't any interaction between the band members, though. Hooky caught on to the fact that the security down front had to look at the crowd the entire time, so he started swing his bass within inches of their heads. Pretty funny. He was straddling a bunch of amps and lights as well. He really was the star of the show.
I know I've probably missed some things but oh well. I just woke up. I'm getting my film developed today, so I should have some pics online Monday or Tuesday. Oh yeah, I'd like to give a shout out to all the ass-hole Outkast fans that started crashing their way through the crowd before NO was done. F**k all of you. Especially that ass that elbowed my girlfriend. Hope I didn't punch you in the face too hard.

I actually wrote this last night after getting home, but sent it from a different IP forgetting that it wouldn't get through. Oh, and I was the one in the aque/turquoise blue plaid button up short sleeves with the black rimmed glasses for anyone that was there. Jeff Sheldon was that you I was right next to?

In two words: FUCKING BRILLIANT. Now, I've been waiting 15 years to see them, so maybe just getting to see them is great, but it also offered all the opportunity in the world to be disappointed.
I can't give you the set list, I don't remember, but they played about what they played at the other shows--including True Faith (which they didn't play in Vancouver?). The only song that didn't sound great was Turn My Way. Could be that I'm just not familiar with it. Oh and Corgan's voice on LWTUA really grated on my nerves.
Great crowd, even the couple of big dunder heads that were just there to see Outkast and were standing at the very front. Completely motionless, clearly not New Order fans. In between songs I said to one of them "Since you aren't a New Order fan, and I've been waiting 15 years to see them can you let me stand there?" He looked confused for a second but then moved and I was right in front about 5 feet from Hooky! I had my friend's digital camera and got about 60 shots. Not all of them are good, but some are absolutely great. He's going to download them and put them on a site and send me the URL so I will let everyone know. I couldn't really get any good shots of Stephen because of the sun (absolutely blinding at times) and a particularly large security guard who wasn't too accomadating about moving to the side a few feet. But I got some great shots.
Temptation was brilliant, as were YSF, Blue Monday, Regret, LWTUA and Atmosphere. My gods, Atmosphere. It was so amazing hearing it. But again, the only song that I thought didn't sound good was TMW.
I'm sure someone else can give a better review than me but I thought I would pass mine on.

well, i was about 10 feet from hooky as well. seems like at least three of use list members were all right together there, and didn't know it. when a couple outcast people tried getting through, i said, "that is not going to happen", and me and my three friends made an impenetrable wall. the show was spectacular. even bernard forgeting when not to sing in BLT, and hooky kicking down the light. it was amazing.

Am stuck in Seattle airport with a few hours to kill so thought I'd send a quick mail to the list. If anyone's going to the LA show look out for a Union Jack with Ceremony written across it near the stage front. I should be somewhere near there. Pop up and say Hello! George Saunders from the list should also be in our vicinity as we've seen him at all shows thus far. The 'Ceremony' isn't actually in reference to this list but we badgered Barney at Vancouver airport to play Ceremony and like to remind him of our request! Pointless I know, but +there you go! If you can't see a Union Jack we're also meeting 3 English lads who've got a huge Cross of St George with them. They should be able to point you in my direction if you ask for Allen!
Shows thus far have been cracking, with only really Vancouver being a letdown. Rained constantly there and we couldn't drink at the festival - what was that all about?! Personal hilite for me is having Hooky write 'Peter Hook says f*** off' across my Shoreline setlist when we ran into him at San Fran airport. Charming bloke.

hookys "rock star" stances were brilliant. he cracked me up. and, in my estimation, he knew exactly what he looked like. there is a guy who looked like he really enjoyed the show. during one song, when billy wasn't doing anything, he walked over and started his "rock star" posing in front of him. then he started nudging him with his bass. billy couldn't keep a straight face then.

see, i thought he said that in reference to atmosphere. he's like, "we've never played this song in seattle before..." sounding all sentimental before the song. then he finished, after the song, by saying, "we haven't played that song in a long time." as he stepped away from the mic, "It's been 24 hours."

well, i hope so. but some people seemed more excited about the rainbow then new order. get your priorities right!

Here, I thought he said, "This is a new song, so don't leave right now." I thought he was joking with the fickle fans there to see the greatest hits collection and nothing else. crystal was good, but 60mph was better. i actually thought turn my way was better than crystal, but i'm a smashing pumkins fan as well, so what can you do?

hilarious! the song was still great, billy laughed at him, while stephen and hooky looked a little nervous for a second... speaking of bernard, we couldn't agree on this on the ride home: does he know that he is one of the worst dancers of all time? i think (giving him the benefit of the doubt as a long term fan) that he knows he can't dance, so he plays it up real good. real good, if you know what i mean. but my friends think he is just terrible, and worse the more he gets into it. i don't know. at least, either way he was enjoying the show enough to get into it. i'm glad you could tell he was having somewhat of a good time. but the running in place and goofy side-back-kick-half-foot jumping?

This was hilarious as well. Didn't you see him accidentally kick the light down? he just kind of looked at as if wondering what it was doing in his way in the first place. sometimes he would stare vacantly into the upper reaches of the crowd, as if disappointed they weren't into it as much as the horde of people just in front of him. but then he would turn back to us and get into it again. it all worked together quite well.
