Soundcheck (15 minutes): All Day Long, Angel Dust (twice) As It Is When It Was, Weirdo
#A I have as a CD copy from a 'five hates six', sourced by TJ, has quite a bit of audience chatter in it and suffers from "down in front" syndrome, with quite a few shifts in the stereo field as the taper moves around.
#B is in my collection, and seems to have been taped farther back, and arguably sounds better, though it lacks the charm of being there. Sound is very good, albeit perhaps second generation.
Stephen Smith says his cassette is akin to #2 above, and it's the version on YouTube.
Description on the Waterrat gig page was that NO apparently didn't care for the audiences in Edinburgh, which is bourne out in the performance.
Stephen has a bit more to say about that, as he was at this show:
"I'd say more than anything the problem was with the venue itself. The Playhouse is all seated, making it hellish for really getting into the music. I've seen a few bands there and it's been the same thing every time (stuck between rows of seats).
It's funny, it seems folk weren't too chuffed with the amount of new songs. For me, that was the best thing about the gig. Angel Dust sounded fantastic with the whole spaghetti western thing going on, All Day Long sounded great and Barney's Jolene refrains in Paradise stuck in my head like nobody's business. The big arpeggio lines in Bizarre Love Triangle leapt out as well. Those were the best things about the gig for me whilst I can't even recall the performances of Ceremony, Temptation and the likes. Then again, it was only my second NO gig and I was desperate to hear their new stuff."
Angel Dust
The synth parts are loud in comparison to the rest of the elements in the mix.
BS: "Thank you very much, that's a new song called Angel Dust."
New Order play State Of The Nation and Way Of Life pretty much straight through. The part before Hooky's bass solo break features one nice feedback screech. Well, Barney does throw out the following lyric:
BS: "Who the fuck do you think you're pissed off at me!"
Paradise
BS: "I'm afraid we've got a bit of a run of new songs here. Hope you all like them."
TJ adds:
"The guy shouting out was shouting "Pish" rather than "Kiss" as he wasn't over-enamoured with the band playing a new songs set two years in a row at Embra !"
The bass synth starts in badly out of time.
All Day Long
Starts out with bass synth instead of bells. Barney's vocals seem particularly flat, although the music is as gorgeous as ever. Hooky flubs his solo a little bit...and the ending consists of bass feedback and plucking.
Thieves Like Us is played straight through.
Stephen's version of the recording has a big, sharp cut just before the end of the song.
Vocals come in a bit late.
Bizarre Love Triangle
PH: "So [Mark|Martin]?, you've never waited for an Emulator to load before?".
Subculture
BS: "Sorry, I'm a bit tired tonight. For a very good reason."
Ceremony
BS: "What a fucking wild audience you are, it's like something out of the fucking Blues Brothers, innit? Don't need no chicken wire with you lot...do I? Should(n't) have to do more (than, or I) swear"
Stephen: "I remember his chicken wire comment, strange moment when you're seeing a band you love and you can tell it's a rotten night for them."
One one of the audience tapes you can here what the punters are yelling back stuff like "You're fucking brillant, asshole! Play some music, asshole!"
Heh..."Forever...watching the bitch..."
Temptation
BS: "Turn the lights down Andy,I can see what I'm doing."
Stephen: "The implication being he wasn't particularly desperate to get it right when the audience was so stoic and undeserving."
Bernard begins a muted guitar strum (Are You Experienced!) before the rest of the song kicks in. "ooh...it's the last fucking time" also makes an appearance...there's a couple other F-words in this as well.
Soundcheck
Also have a copy of the soundcheck that was torrented on EZT. I keep waffling back and forth regarding whether this is soundboard or audience sourced, though I'm leaning now towards this being from an audience tape (probably Sony WM-D6 with good mics).
Excellent sound quality, though there are skips during the first bit of Love Will Tear Us Apart.
All Day Long
BS: "Where's the snare, Oz, where's the snare?"
Bernard mutters something at the "Now I hope you know this..." bit. (1:13)
BS: "Emulator, Ed...this Emulator...[can't make out]" (2:56)
BS: "Just a little bit without...can you turn the...off...Oz?"
Angel Dust
BS: "that, that...the top line's a bit loud...just a bit..." (0:56)
BS: "That sound...that melody sounds like it's gone down(?) [can't totally make out]" (1"57)
Some string synth samples follow, and then silence....with a repeat of the sequencer motif.
As It Is When It Was
Hooky countin: "three-four".

First few seconds sound muted.
Every Little Counts
Clear edit. Barney mumbles something a few seconds in.
BS: "We're getting a bass...through here, just coming out front..." (0:37). Bass levels in the recording cut out until 1:02.
BS: "Turn the Emulator [mumble] bass up...turn the Emulator bass up... [Bernard mumbles something else I can't decipher] (1:40)
BS: "Whoa!" (2:08)
Lonesome Tonight
Starts with a orchestral synth riffs along with the bass guitar.
Bernard asks to turn something up. (1:28)
And asks for "...more acoustic...just a little bit..." (1:41)
And mutters for something else a bit later.
Copies of this soundcheck have three tracks appended from 28 March 1986 at Brighton Centre.

Versions
AUD #1 - Soundcheck recording, unknown taper.
AUD #2 - Seems to have been taped farther back and arguably sounds better though it lacks the charm of being there. Sound is very good, albeit perhaps a few generations off master. GaoBest says was *not* done by UKBT. This is the same version that was seeded by dropdeadfred to DIME by the way (which is the best), as the audience chatter lines up between versions. Same as #B above.
AUD #3 - Seeded to DIME 2012-05-12. Wind noise/mic thump at start, as well as tapping at the start of Way Of Life, and somebody calling out for "TPK, Bernard" at the end of Subculture make this unique.
AUD #4 - Lazlo - Sony D6 - Sony ECM-929LT. This is #A above.
