Setlist

Temptation, The Perfect Kiss, State Of The Nation, Elegia, As It Is When It Was, This Time Of Night, 586, Subculture, Blue Monday, Sunrise, Face Up, Confusion,Ceremony

Compere Alan Wise takes the stage.  The version on YouTube is missing much of his intro, and starts on "Joy Division".  Luckily, I have an alternate recording that preserves the full intro.

AW:  "A little light please, maestro!  Yeah yeah yeah, you (laughs).  They'll be on in about three minutes.  No, they're not ready yet, three minutes.  But I gotta tell you about...a top show that New Order are promoting their own concert, Wednesday the 11th of December, John Cale and Nico...the Forum, Wythenshawe.  Not Wythenshawe, the Forum Camden Town, John Cale and Nico.  Oh...oh look, a rocket (sound of one going off), that's great, we didn't have to wait long for that.  No more of that, boys.  I'd like to tell you about this group.  They're all right-thinking individuals.  It's a complete myth that they're all members of the National Front."

The crowd is super-rowdy and chanting for the band to come on.

AW:  "They're a good band.  They're from the north of England.  They used to be called Warsaw.  Then they were called Joy Division,  they must have a few bills, therefore...welcome, if you will, Blue Monday".

This a new transcription as I never made one for this show.

Temptation

Bernard clears his throat, and says "one", and then Hooky thwacks his bass.

PH:  "Fucking late, every time."

(at end)

PH:  "Thanks very much."

The Perfect Kiss

BS:  "It's called The Perfect Kiss.  It's about nothing in particular."

This version has a couple of Hooky single-note stabs through the intro.

BS:  "I'm not a lying bastard."  (maybe replying to a heckler?)

BS:  "What would you like us to play?  What would like us to play?"

State Of The Nation follows.

BS:  "Thanks very much.  Going to play something a bit...quieter now.  For all the sensitive souls in the audience."

Elegia

Surprised him a bit to hear cheering, presumably.

BS:  "Oh thank you very much, thank you very much, thank you very much.  This is called Elegia, what I mean is...a funeralesque dirge.  Just thought we'd be playing into the hands of our critics with this one."

I presume he's referring to the choice of song not being a fast one for all the meathead "bullock brains" wanting to mosh around.

Lots of shouting from the crowd, but not much recognition as the group launch into As It Is When It Was, since that one wouldn't come out until 1986's "Brotherhood".  Adds a gratuitous "f" word referring to thieves and crooks.

Hooky seems to be having problems with his bass at the end and keeps vamping on it.

BS:  "Do it all the time."

This Time Of Night follows.

5-8-6

BS:  "This is...this is where we take the set a little bit more uptempo.  We realize that we got three thousands meatheads in here tonight, and what you like is a nice drumbeat.  So this next song has got a nice drumbeat."

Still lots of apparent discontent and banter.

BS:  "Shut up...fuck all.  Hooky says something about "you cunts", can't quite make this out.

(at end)

BS:  "I'd like to dedicate that one to Dead Or Alive, who [couple words I can't make out] ripped us off.  Anyway, it's nice to be out in London again.  It's nice. We love you Cockney bastards."

PH:  "Makes you realize why we fucking live in Macclesfield."

Subculture

BS:  "This song always reminds me of a cabaret song."

Blue Monday

BS:  "Feel like I know you all personally.  Feel like I know this song personally."

Sunrise follows.

BS:  "Thanks very much, thank you very much."

Face Up is next.

BS:  "Thanks very much."

Confusion follows, with members of ACR playing, supposedly.

PH:  We told (name?) that one day he'd make it in the business, and tonight he has.

Ceremony

Believe this is the same recording as Fractured/Image's, but here it is standalone.

Openers A Certain Ratio were also recorded.
