NO: 26 JAN 1985 King George's Hall - Blackburn, England

Setlist

Sunrise, This Time Of Night, Age Of Consent, Sooner Than You Think, Your Silent Face, Subculture, Thieves Like Us, Face Up, Confusion, The Perfect Kiss

Taken from a first-generation copy taped by Simon Park using a Technics portable deck. Sound is good, though a bit quiet, with some hiss. According to Simon, this is due to the particular acoustics of the particular venue, and indeed it's very hard to make out between-song comments due to all the reverb.

Sunrise

PH: "Good evening. ...New Order."

BS: "...two"

Rather than sing, Bernard hums the rest of "Tell me, how does one get..." line. The lyrics are otherwise complete.

Ending is slightly different.

BS: "Thanks very much."

This Time Of Night

Debut of this one!

The intro sequence (a drum track) is longer than normal, and is very reminiscent of Kraftwerk, and is excellent! The lyrics are similar to the final version, though.

Age Of Consent

BS: "Hang on...the next one...to be...(?)" [can't understand rest]

lyric: Bernard says something "interesting" after they "Do you find that this happens all the time?" line, but I can't understand what he's saying.

Sooner Than You Think

BS: "Tried to like it? You did like? We played it just for you."
(not sure of exact phrasing)

(after song finishes)

PH: "Thank you. Thank you. [something], is this your follow spot?
Or are you try to fuck off, please."

Some football-style chanting for Ceremony.

Your Silent Face

Folks chant the melody.

Barney plays a few bars of something before the Order proceed onto the next tune.

Subculture

Afterwards there's quite a bit of ruckus and a couple of hecklers shouting out.

Thieves Like Us

PH: "Shut up! Fucking (hell)."

BS: "Eddie...a bit of snare drum please."

Bernard says something else I can't make out during the bridge.

lyric: "Oh it's called fucking, yet's it's called fucking...oh it's called shafting, and it belongs to us..."

The "love is..." verse has also been reworked.

Somebody comments "they're not as good as they used to be!" as the track comes to a close.

Barney "That song was about the classic view of l'amour...as it still stings [?]...oh I love a song like that..." [can't completely make this out]

New Order than play Face Up, afterwards there's a edit (A/B flip) and then comes Confusion.

Afterwards there's quite a bit of cheering in between, so I assume New Order had stepped off and come back on stage for an encore.

The Perfect Kiss

BS: "This next record is our new single, it's gonna sound fucking great...actually, even better than everything else we've played tonight. It's gonna sound, honestly it's gonna sound fucking wonderful. Because you're beautiful."

BS: "And also, give a big round for Gillian, it's her 21st birthday today."
(this is more or less what he says)

This is the first part of a running gag, as Gillian's birthday is actually on the 27th of January, so I guess this was just a dry run part of the set. :-)

Somebody (same as whoever said NO wasn't as good as they used to be, I think): "Once again, a [?] gig where the songs...[can't quote make out]" (SP version)

Versions

AUD #1 unknown taper/mics - TJ reckons it's better than any other version then he's heard. Face Up is cut on this copy, but perspexorange sent on that preserves 30s more of intro before Sunrise and doesn't have cut in "Face Up".

AUD #2  Lazlo - Shaisho P50 / Philips mics (borrowed) - Different audience recording than TJ version. Talking between taper and friend during first part of Sunrise, and between AoC and STYT. More chatter between Subculture and TLU, right before Hooky tells the crowd to shut up.  No cuts. A/B edit is between TLU and Face Up only on generated copy, master is complete. Face Up is complete, though a bit near the end of TPK is missing.  This is the version used by Fractured/Image.

AUD #3  SP - Technics with built-in mics - Start of 'Confusion' is cut as that was the A/B flip point. A bit more audience before the start of 'Sunrise'.

There may also be SD Sony D6/ECM-717 and AB sources, but these haven't been confirmed.
